Roles of strain and carrier in silicon oxidation

Ogawa, Shuichi*; Yoshigoe, Akitaka; Tang, J.*; Sekihata, Yuki*; Takakuwa, Yuji*

In this paper, we review the study of the unified Si oxidation reaction model mediated by point defect generation, in which O$$_{2}$$ dissociative adsorption occurs at dangling bonds of point defects (emitted Si atoms and vacancies) at the SiO$$_{2}$$/Si interface, and the point defect generation rate is given by a combination of oxidation-induced strain, thermal strain due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between Si and SiO$$_{2}$$, thermal excitation of Si emission rate, and heat of adsorption.

Development of decomposition/detoxicifying technology of dioxins in waste incineration flue gases using electron beams

Kojima, Takuji

Hoshasen To Sangyo, (95), p.64 - 68, 2002/09

JAERI has developed decomposition/detoxicization technology of diozins in waste incineration flue gas using electron beams and actual 200$$^{circ}C$$ flue gas at Takahama clean center. The obtained results are as follows:(1) Ratio of concentrations before and after irradiation were about 50%, 80% and higher than 90%(goal) for absorbed doses of 3, 10, and higher than 14kGy. (2)Applicability of the obtained data with the scale-up ratio of about 6 was demonstrated for actual 4,000 m$$^{3}$$/h flue gases. (3)Toxicity as endocline-desruptor was checked using ELISA method and higher than 50% of such a toxicity was reduced from initial one by irradiation.(4) Diphenylether(DPE) or chloro-DPE having benzen-rings and ether bonds, were used as model compounds to clarify electron-beam decomposition mechanism detecting decomposition products at 200$$^{circ}$$C. Break of ether bonds and cleavage of benzen-rings can be occured mainly at the initial decoposition process of dioxins rather than dissociation of Cl base without destruction of dioxin structure.

Sodium leak and combustion experiment-II report; Evaluation result of damage of mild steel liner

PNC TN9410 97-055, 128 Pages, 1996/07

Several material analyses on damage of the floor liner made of a mild steel which was in the test cell of the second sodium leak and combustion experiment (Test-2) performed in OEC/PNC on June 7 in 1996 were carried out to clarify the following issues. (1)Difference of the corrosion mechanism of Test-2 liner to that of the first sodium leak and combustion experiment(Test-1) liner. (2)The vital factor which can desides corrosion mechanism and damage location. The following analyses were accomplished. (a)Microstructure observation (b)EPMA for cross-section of vicinity of corroded area (c)X-ray diffraction(XRD) for the interface between corrosion product-liner(mild steel) The differences between the corrosion mechanism of Test-1 liner which is seemed to be the same that of "MONJU" liner and that of Test-2 liner is discussed based on the results of these material analyses. As the result, the Na-Fe double oxidization with mechanical/chemical removal of reaction product can be occurred on the Test-1 and "MONJU" liner. On the other hand, a hot-corrosion, taht is the molten salt type corrosion is subject to be thinning of the Test-2 liner. All failures of Test-2 liner surround at the halfway up a convex. Considering the above corrosion mechanism, that fact leads that significant damage is occurred at the molten salt level.
